For a few months, I have considered creating a blog and I finally sat down and took the time to do it. After a bit of deliberation, I decided upon music as the guiding theme for my blog. I have always loved listening to and analyzing music--a hobby learned from my dad. This hobby, however, has evolved into a passion. Furthermore, in many regards, music often aligns with my daily experiences; I quite often encounter experiences, which trigger the thought of certain songs and vice versa. As such, with each post I will use a song or album through which to recount an experience, tell a story, or just to express some thoughts. Hopefully, this blog will enhance the love of music and incite different perspectives on an art form that is often nonchalantly disregarded. I also hope to post the songs along with the various posts in order to enhance the reading experience.
This inaugural post is titled "A Love Supreme," after John Coltrane's 1964 album. This four-track album was one of my first introductions to Coltrane, and is often heralded as one of the greatest albums of all time. As the liner notes record, the creation of A Love Supreme was a wholly spiritual experience in which musical genius, deep-seated passion, and the search for a higher spititual freedom combined to birth a masterpiece. Listening to this album evokes the same fervent spirit, which created it. As the inaugual post, I felt that this was the most appropriate title and album to frame the passion with which I approach music and writing--the coalescence of which marks my love supreme.
